NUCLEAR POLICY AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTION



One of the current issues that modern civilization has to deal with is the problem of rising consumption of energy. We have to face the fact that the overall prediction in terms of energy sources for the upcoming years is not very favourable. The fossil fuels such as coal and oil are slowly running out and sometime around 2030 we might end up completely without any supplies which can produce a serious world collapse. Our dependency on fossil fuels is an acute problem that needs to be solved. Some scientists, including dr.Symonds, who raised the problem at a conference, suggest that nuclear energy might be the right solution. In fact, nuclear power presents a lot of advantages. It is ecological, effective and owing to modern technology also relatively safe. However, the cases of several nuclear accidents that happened in the past, like the Chernobyl disaster, show that misuse of nuclear power can lead to risky events which present a serious danger for the ecosystem of our planet.
