"The Westminster
We start our tour at the westminster, which is situated the centre of London. Westminster make up of : the Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the St. Jame´s Park and Palace, the Buckingham Palace, the Whitehall, the Houses of Parliament, the Westmister Abbey, and the Tate Britain.
The Trafalgar Square is named according to nautical battle, which came to fruition in 1805 near Trafalgar in Spain. British admiral Nelson defeated Napoleon. At the square, there is a column (52 metre high) with statue of admiral Nelson. Bedside column, there are lions of stone.
At the Trafalgar Square, we can find the National Gallery, which is situated on the north of this square. In the National Gallery, there is a British colection of European art (from early renaissance to 1900). Gallery originated in 1824, when colection contained 38 pictures. Now, colection contain 2000 pictures.
The Buckingham Palace is main London seat of Queen. This palace was built in 1702 for duke of Buckingham. Later, George III. bought palace and in 1825 architect John Nash extended for George IV. it.
Queen and duke from Edinburg are inhabiting about 12 rooms from 650 rooms. They inhabit only the forst floor of the northern wing. If the Queen is at the Palace, royal flag fly on the central flagstaff.
In 1993 the Buckingham Palace was opened for people, because royal family need money for repair the Windsor castle, which was destroyed by fire. Palace, you can visit only during turning point summer and aurumn. In this time, Queen isn´t at the Palace. People can visit for example: dining-room, musical room, white reception room and throne hall.
Queen has one of the best private colections of arts (has about 9000 works by from example Leonardo da Vinci, van Dyck).
Many people want to see changing of the guards in front of the Buckingham Palace. This changing take place every the second day in 11:30 in the time from September to March. New guards march from the Wellington barracks and meet with old guards on the courtyard in front of palace. Both guards change symbolic keys. Irish guards wear special hats, whitch are made from bear's skin.
In front of the Buckingham palace, there is situated memorial of the Queen Victoria.
The Whitehall is large street, which lead from the trafalgal Square to the Parliament Square. This street is made by government buildings. Name of this street or area come from name of palace of Jindřich VIII. – the Whitehall.
The Bangueting house was built in 1619. it was the first renaissance uilding in the Britain. Wonderful celling is the most precious because it is the work from Rubens.
The Downing street number 10 is also sitiated on the Whitehall. Downing street number 10 has been from 1735 office and residence of Prime ministers. People can not go to this house because of iron gate.
The Downing street number 11 is seat of steward of treasure.
The Houses of Parliament is situated on the left bank of the Thams. Official name is The Palace of Westminster. Building of the Houses of Parliamet was rebuilt in gothic style under King Edward and it was enlarged during rule of William the Conqueror. From the 12th century to time of Jindřich VIII. it was palace of Kings. Palace was destroyed by fire in 1834 and then consecutively it was built in contemporary style again."
