"Sports are also differentiated into two groups according to where they can be practised. We ´ve indoor and outdoor sports. Indoor sports include for example table tennis, gymnastic, handball etc. Amoung outdoor sports there are skiing, horse riding, golf, windsurfing etc. We´ve also some sports which can be practised indoor and outdoor too. It is swimming, figure skating etc. Meetings in all the track and fields events like sprints, high jump, long jump, javelin and so on can be also practised in summer stadiums as well as in athletic halls.
There are many famous sportsmen in the world, who come from the Czech Republic. In hockey it is for example Jágr or Hašek, in the skiing it´s Valenta, in the tennis it is Martina Navrátilová, who was also famous for her sexual orientation.
Every sport has its own competition. F. e. the most famous competition of basketball is NBA, in hockey it is NHL etc.
The most famous sports competition in the world are Olympic Games. They were founded by Greeks and they should test a strenght and a bravery of young boys who wanted to be admited between adult people.
An origin of Olympic Games is not known. It is said that Zeus founded them like a symbol of victory of a fear between him and his father Kronos.
In the 9th century B. C. Greek was afflicted by the plague and king Ifithos had to conclude the arrangement with a king of Sparta name Lykurgos and from this time Olympia was a holy place for a cult of Zeus.
The first Olympic Games took place in 776 B. C. There was just one event at first – it was sprinting event. During the following years the next events were added – it was long distance run, pentathlon, horse riding and so on. There were also exhibited some pictures and read some famous books during the Olympic Games. The last ancient OG took place in 393 A.D. because emperor Theodosius forbad them.
In the 19th century Pierre de Coubertin renewed Olympic Games and in 1896 took place Olympic Games in Athens.
Since 1924 there has been two parts to the games – the winter part which has 7 events and the summer part which consists of 28 events. They alternative once every two years. Summer OG consists of atletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, taekwondo, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, handball, swimming, fencing, softball, table tennis, regular tennis, voleyball etc. and winter OG consists of figure skating, curling, ice-hockey, snowboarding, acrobatic skiing, speed skating, sledge and so on. Only five of this sports has been located in every OG since 1896 – it is athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing and rowing.
There are four Olympic symbols in OG – Olympic flag, fire, slogan and oath.
Olympic flag – it was proposed by P. Coubertin in 1914. there are five circles on the flag. Every circle represents one of the five continents. Blue is Europe, black is Africa, America is red, Asia is yellow and Australia has a green color.
Olympic fire – in 1934 was decided that fire will be lit from sunbeams on the mountain Olymp and transfered to Berlin. From that time the fire has been always lit from sunbeams. "
