Úryvek

“The first people lived in the British Isles in late Stone Age. They came from Europe after 3000 b.c. Stonehenge – a huge circle of standing stones was built by these early inhabitans.
Then the Celts, who were settlers from Europe, started to invide Britain from the 10th century b.c. As one of their tribes bas called the Britons, the whole island was called the Britannia. Celts gave the country its prezent name but they didn’t leave any written records because they didn’t use any skript. Celts were dividend into many tribes under a chief. Thein houses were circular. Celts worshipped many gods and their priests were called druids. They believed the soul is immortal and offered human sacrifices.
Then the Romans invided and occupied Britain in 43 ad. Romans stayed almost 400 years, built camp and towns. The Hadrian’s Wall was built across the northern border in order to protect Roman’s territory against Celtic invisitors from the north. Presence of Romans remind place – names like Chester, Lancaster, Gloucester, which include Roman word castra
(military camp)
Christianity arrived in the fifth century and at the same time in the fifth century the Roman Empire was attacked by the Mongol tribes and Roman soldiers had to sail for Rome.
After Roman’s leaving The Angles and Saxons came from Germany. England took its name from Angles. They took advantages of the chaos in the country, broke in and started to drive away the Celts to the west and north. The only king who fought against them was Arthur. (we know this story about the knights of the round table from the film Camelot ).
The Anglo – Saxons were good farmers and warriors, but they were paguns (pohané). The Celts were Christians and they despised these barbarians..
In the 9th and 10th centuries Britain experienced invasion of Vikings from Scandinavia. Vikings sailed in thein long boats and were not only brave warriors but also good traclers. Like Saxons they worshipped pagon gods. In the end Vikings settled mainly in the north, lived inpeace and many of them became Christians. In the 11th century William Duke of Normandy was promised to be the king in Britain, but in the end Herold of Wesser became a king. William invaded the country and after defeating the Saxon King Herold in the battle of Hastings in 1066 he became William the conqueror. This battle was one of the most important in Britain history."
