"The USA is located in the North America. The US is bordered to the north by Canada and to the south by Mexico. The official name of the country is the United States of America. But it is also called the USA or the US. The Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. The USA was England colony from 17th century. But the colonists wanted freedom from Britain, so there was a war, and the USA became independent on the 4th July 1776. The first president was George Washington.
The USA is 3rd largest country in the world. Population is more than 300 million. It is a multicultural country. The main language is English, but a lot of people speak Spanish.
The USA is federal political republic. The federal government consists of three branches. The legislative power is concentrated in Congress which is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 435 members in the House of Representatives and 100 senators, two from each state. The head of each state is the governor. The president is the head of the executive power. Nowadays it is Barack Obama. He is the 44th and first Afro-American president of the USA. The US flag is nicknamed Star and Stripes because there are 50 white stars and 13 red and white stripes on it. The stars represent the 50 states of the USA. The stripes represent 13 British colonies. Currency is American dollar. The capital city is Washington DC.
The United States includes fifty semi−autonomous states. Alaska is the largest state and has the longest coastline in the US. Texas is the second largest state of area. California is the most populous state. Florida is one of the most popular states, because it is nicknamed “the Sunshine State” and is known for the spacecraft launchings from Cape Canaveral.
Now I would like to speak about geography. There are the Cordilleras mountains and the Rocky mountains. The highest point is Mount McKinley and lies in Alaska. Mississippi is the longest river. The most famous waterfalls in the world – the Niagara Falls are located in the USA. There are a lot of lakes on the borderline with Canada. The Superior Lake is the biggest. The landscape is very diverse and beautiful. There are many natural parks f. e. Yellowstone, Death Valley, Yosemite, The Grand Canyon or Everglades. Yellowstone is the oldest national park in the world. The Grand Canyon is the most popular canyon system in the USA and is located in Arizona. Everglades is located in Florida and there are crocodiles and alligators.
A lot of famous people come from the USA f. e. writer and holder of Nobel price Ernest Hemingway, famous singers Frank Sinatra, the king of Rock´n´roll Elvis Presley, or the king of pop Michael Jackson. Famous actress Julia Robert or Marylin Monroe come from the USA and very popular pop art artist Andy Warhol was born in the USA too.
Now I would like to speak about attractive cities in the USA. New York is located on three islands on the East Coast of the USA. New York is America´s biggest and most international city. It is an important business, fashion and cultural centre. There are Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Guggenheim museum, Broadway, Central park and the most popular sights is the Statue of Liberty. Other popular city is Los Angeles. Los Angeles is located in California. It is called city of angels. Las Angeles is famed films. There are quarters Beverly Hills, where a lot of famous people live and Hollywood, where is organized Oscar Awards and Grammy Awards every year. Other popular cities are f.e. Atlanta, where is home of Coca Cola, Huston, where is home to NASA´s Space centre or San Francisco, where is the Golden Gate bridge, the most popular bridge in the USA.
Now I would like to inform you about Washington DC. Washington is capital city of the USA. It is seat of president, congress, court and many international and national organization f. e. FBI, CIA and the World bank. There is the biggest library in the world. The most popular sights are the White house (seat of president), the Capitol (seat of congress) and Lincoln memorial with statue of president Abraham Lincoln. Tourists can visit f.e. the National museum of aviation and astronautic. There is the first plane in the world from brothers Wright."
