"The first meal of the day is breakfast. The traditional British breakfast is very big – sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans and fried bread. But nowadays many people have cereal with milk, fruit, yoghurt, or toast with marmalade, jam or honey. If I was in England, I tasted a lot of toast with marmalade and jam. The traditional breakfast drink is tea, which people have with cold milk. Some people drink coffee or orange juice. Many visitors to Britain find British coffee disgusting.
Between 12 o´clock and two o´clock people have lunch. For many people lunch is a quick meal. People eat f.e. soup, sandwiches or salad. In cities there are a lot of sandwiches bars. People often get take away meal – you buy the food at the restaurant and then bring it home to eat. Most children have their lunch at school. They can take sandwiches from home or they can buy food at school cafeteria.
The mail meal of the day is dinner. People eat this between about six and eight o´clock in the evening. A traditional dinner is meat or fish with potatoes and vegetable, but many people nowadays cook foreign food f.e. Chinese food, Indian food, Mexican food, Italian food. Pasta and pizzas are very popular and Indian food, such as curry with rice. A lot of people are vegetarian.
After the main course soma people have dessert, such as fruit, chocolate cake, or apple pie with ice cream or custard.
On Sundays many families have a traditional lunch. They have roast meat, either beef, lamb, chicken, or pork, with potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Gravy is a sauce made from meat juices and mixing with flour and vegetable stock.
Now, I would like talk about English specialties and national meals. The English national meals, fish and chips and roast dinners, are also the traditional ones. The stereotype is fish and chips served as a take-away meal wrapped in newspaper. Fish and chips is unhealthy because have a lot of fats. In England, roast beef is one of the meals traditionally served at Sunday dinner. It is usually served with boiled or roast potatoes, peas, Brussels sprouts, carrots, Yorkshire pudding and of course gravy.
On special occasions people may go out to dinner or supper to a restaurant or pub. Depending on the type of restaurant, you can expect different levels of service. Some smaller food outlets do not allow payment by credit card. In expensive restaurants can be a service charge included in the bill. Increasingly, restaurants in Britain are non-smoking."
