"Washington was founded in 1790 as the capital city of the USA. It lies on Potomac River. Its location was chosen because it was on a river which was good for trade and it was between the southern and northern states. In Washington is the seat of the government, Supreme Court and the President.
Interesting place and monuments:
There are too many monuments. Most of them are located on the National Mall. It is boulevard between the Capitol and the Washington monument. The Washington monument was built to honor George Washington – the first president of the USA. The Capitol is the political center of the US government.
President’s official residence and workplace is the White House.
The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor Abraham Lincoln, who fought against slavery.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors members of almost 60 000 Americans which died in the Vietnam War (1955-1975).

The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom and probably the most famous sight in NY.
The most visited city park in the USA is Central Park. It contains attractions, lakes, ice-skating rinks and ZOO.
Very famous is Brooklyn Bridge – it crosses the East River and connects Manhattan and Brooklyn."
